چکیده

Abstract The matrix element of a bound electron interacting with the nucleus through exchange of a Z boson is studied for the gauge invariant case of 2s1/2 − 2p1/2 transitions in hydrogenic ions. The QED radiative correction to the matrix element, which is −α/2π in lowest order, is calculated to all orders in Zα using exact propagators. Previous calculations of the first-order binding correction are confirmed both analytically and by fitting the exact function at low Z. Consequences for the interpretation of parity nonconservation in cesium are discussed.

The self-energy and vertex QED radiative corrections (∼ Zα 2 f (Zα)) are shown to give a large negative contribution to the parity nonconserving (PNC) amplitude in heavy atoms. The correction −0.7(2)% found for the 6s − 7s PNC amplitude in 133 Cs brings the experimental result for this transition into agreement with the standard model. The calculations are based on a new identity that expresses...

QED radiative corrections to parity nonconservation in heavy atoms.

The self-energy and vertex QED radiative corrections [approximately Zalpha2f(Zalpha)] are shown to give a large negative contribution to the parity nonconserving (PNC) amplitude in heavy atoms. The correction -0.73(20)% found for the 6s-7s PNC amplitude in 133Cs brings the experimental result for this transition into agreement with the standard model. The calculations are based on a new relatio...

Vacuum-polarization corrections to the parity-nonconserving 6s-7s transition amplitude in (133)Cs.

The dominant one-loop radiative corrections to atomic wave functions, those associated with vacuum polarization in the nuclear Coulomb field, are evaluated for the 6s-7s parity-nonconserving transition amplitude in (133)Cs. These corrections increase the size of this amplitude by 0.4% and, correspondingly, increase the difference between the experimental value of the weak charge Q(W)((133)Cs) a...

The Standard Model in Strong Fields: Electroweak Radiative Corrections for Highly Charged Ions

Electroweak radiative corrections to the matrix elements 〈ns1/2|ĤPNC|n′p1/2〉 are calculated for highly charged hydrogenlike ions. These matrix elements constitute the basis for the description of the most parity nonconserving (PNC) processes in atomic physics. The operator ĤPNC represents the parity nonconserving relativistic effective atomic Hamiltonian at the tree level. The deviation of thes...

Weak Radiative Hyperon Decays

It is shown that an alternative form of the parity-nonconserving (PNC) transition electromagnetic current resolves partly a puzzle with the Hara theorem. New formulation of it has allowed PNC weak radiative hyperon transitions of the charged hyperons Σ+ ⇒ p + γ and Ξ ⇒ Σ + γ revealing hitherto unseen transition toroid dipole moment.
